Scheduled for broadcast in mid-2007, the five one-hour documentaries and five short-form features will inform a diverse public about such topics as:
- Beyond The Genome: The Genetics Of Individual Variation
- Minding The Brain: The Genetics Of Neurobiology
- Comparative Genomics: What Do Animals Tell Us About Ourselves?
- The Heat Is On: Evolution In Action
- Food Biotechnology: The Golden Revolution
MasComm Associates is managing the project’s outreach. Grants of $8,000-12,000 will be awarded to some 20 public radio stations throughout the country. Public radio stations and their partners will develop outreach initiatives and local reporting to introduce a wide and diverse audience, especially listeners who tune into rural and minority stations, to these timely topics in an un-intimidating way. Community outreach activities may include museum events, speaker’s forums, school activities, and more. Sallie Bodie is the Outreach Project Manager, while Karen Hodgkiss provides additional support that includes writing and conference coordination.
The DNA Files III, produced by SoundVision Productions®, is funded by the National Science Foundation, the U. S. Department of Energy, the National Institutes of Health, and the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, and is distributed by National Public Radio.
